I made a spider diagram of ideas for themes of the video and ideas within each theme. I decided not to have a specific storyline and for my video to be shot with a few people in it. One idea was to have 4 people all in different locations. I went against this idea as with the time allowance given it was not possible. I therefore decided to have 4 people but seen in the same location but not necessarily all seen together all the time. I decided to have some shots quite repetitive (such as the four people all walking along past the same place separately) as the song itself is repetitive. I chose the four people to all be female as it is a female singing the song.

The start of the video will be a close up of a foot tapping as the music gets louder and louder. As the drum beat starts the feet start walking at the pace of the drum until the lyrics start. This will lead in to the start of the lyrics as I plan for the first verse to be focused on people walking.

From looking at the lyrics in the 2^nd verse I decided it would be effective to act out the lyrics. For example there is a lyric about being “glammed up and sitting on the fence now”.  I will therefore have a girl sitting ready to go out on a fence. For the chorus I thought of the idea of having a box on peoples head with the lyrics “That’s not my name” written on it. This emphasis’s the idea of people not knowing the persons name as it depersonalises them as their face is not visible.

For the slow part of the song I have planned to have the 4 people on a line passing a box along with the lyrics on it. They can do so slowly so it fits with the slower part of the song and brings back the box idea.

That’s Not My Name – The Ting Tings

The video type is performance. The 2 band members are shown to be performing in a large warehouse that is empty. Colourful lighting is used as a contrast against the dark building and at times it lights up the whole room. Often lighting is used to create only the girls silhouette. This does not allow the audience to clearly understand who she is and takes away who she is and her personality. This reflects the songs meaning of people not knowing the girls name. There is no narrative due to the video type being performance.
